Frida: The Making of an Icon – Organized by the MFAH, this ambitious exhibition tells the extraordinary story of how Frida Kahlo, little recognized during her lifetime, became one of the world’s most influential artists decades after her death. Paintings and memorabilia by the artist, along with works by five generations of artists from the 1970s to todaywill trace the transformation of her reputation from a relatively unknown painter to a universal icon. The exhibition premieres at the MFAH in January 2026, then travels to Tate Modern in London.

Many galleries throughout the Museum feature the MFAH Permanent Collections and Special Exhibitions that guests can explore at no additional cost. The Museum closes to the public at 5:00 p.m. every Wednesday.

Arrival DetailsPlease share with admissions staff that you are here for a guided group tour meeting in the Beck atrium. You will be directed to gather in the Level 1 Cullen Atrium of the Beck Building, where you will receive welcome and any admission materials from a Group Sales representative and meet your guides, Eric Timmreck and Anne Breux.

The closest garage is Beck Garage (1144 Binz St, Houston, TX 77005) and walk across Fannin St. to enter the Beck Building through the Main entry. If arriving by shared ride, please go to the covered drop-off of the Audrey Jones Beck Building (5601 Main St, Houston, TX 77005).
