Shell Alumni Association of Greater Houston

Hockney-Van Gogh: The Joy of Nature

On Wednesday, May 5th, join your fellow alumni for a self-guided tour of the special exhibit of Hockney – Van Gogh: The Joy of Nature. Two visionary artists, separated in time and space, are united by a shared fascination with nature. See the work of David Hockney and Vincent van Gogh side-by-side. This exhibition examines the common ground between British artist Hockney (born 1937) and Dutch artist Van Gogh (1853–1890). Both expressed their profound love of nature through brilliant color and the capacity to see the world with fresh eyes. The Joy of Nature reveals Van Gogh’s unmistakable influence on Hockney in a selection of carefully selected landscape paintings and drawings.

The admission ticket to Hockney-Van Gogh tour allows you to explore the entire museum.  Please allow enough time to explore the new Kinder Building which is devoted to the display of the Museum's international collections of modern and contemporary art.  Also on display is Electrifying Design:  A Century of Lighting that celebrates lighting devices - innovative, practical, delightful, and fun.  Over the past 100 years, the field of lighting design has been a catalyst for technological and artistic expression.
